If you’re craving authentic Salvadoran cuisine, this vibrant eatery is a must-visit. Founded by Juan Saravia and Stephanie, La Pupusa Urbana is a reflection of their deep connection to both their Salvadoran roots and Los Angeles upbringing. Raised by immigrant families and inspired by their grandmothers and hardworking parents, their culinary journey started in the streets of El Salvador and continued in LA during the 80s and 90s. Their abuela’s legendary cart at El Liborio was a significant influence. Recognizing a void in Salvadoran representation, they created a space that blends their heritage with the vibrant LA culture they grew up in. The menu features standout dishes like the giant La Mamasota pupusa and the heart-shaped Corazón Pupusa, offering both traditional and inventive flavors. With a warm, inviting atmosphere, dining here is not just a meal but a heartfelt celebration of Salvadoran culture and the pride they have for their city.

What sets them apart is their unique blend of Mexican and Guatemalan flavors, reflecting the diverse culinary heritage of the husband and wife owners. After years of working in corporate settings, they combined a Business Administration degree from CSUF with their passion for food to create this distinctive taqueria. Their journey began with catering backyard parties, corporate events, and weddings, which allowed them to perfect their craft. In 2021, they opened their first brick-and-mortar location in Downtown Montebello’s BLVD MRKT. The taqueria’s tacos are made with high-quality, fresh ingredients and feature a rich mix of traditional and innovative flavors.
